The Village of Waunakee is a growing community located five miles north of Madison. Billed as "The Only Waunakee in the World ", the village had over 11,500 residents as of 2009. The Village has its own privately owned airport, a business park and added a local Village Center in 2006 that acts as a central meeting point for the community by offering a fitness center, senior center, meeting rooms, and a gymnasium.
Waunakee boasts an active Chamber of Commerce whose members have joined forces to build a strong central core of business owners and workers united in their efforts to accomplish certain goals. Among these goals are increasing business growth and job development in the community, building a healthy marketplace for economic development, revitalization of Waunakee’s downtown as well as continued business and industrial park growth.
Waunakee has three elementary schools serving Kindergarten through 4th grade. Those schools are Arboretum, Heritage and Prairie. The Village has an intermediate school serving students in 5th and 6th grades, a Middle School for 7th and 8th grades and Waunakee High School serving grades 9-12.
